6 - 15th September, 2023 - Term 3, Week 10
Principal's News
Dear Families,
As we come to the end of another busy term, I’d like to take the opportunity to wish you all a restful holiday - hopefully there will be some time over the next two weeks to enjoy the break from school routines! This week there have been a large number of students who have been unwell, so we hope that everyone has a good rest and is ready to return to school fit and healthy, ready for the final term of the year. We welcome back Mrs. Phelan from Long Service Leave next term, and thank Mrs. Lawrence for filling in during Mrs. Phelan's time away.
On Wednesday, the OLSH students spent the afternoon completing activities as part of Sunray Warriors – an Environmental Adventure, an educational showcase presented by local agencies and organisations. All students had a great time and were able to learn and share their knowledge on a broad range of topics, including the river, the environment, water safety and much more. Thanks go to Mrs. Courtney for her organisation of the excursion. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot!
Yesterday we saw a splash of yellow in our school grounds to acknowledge R U OK? Day. This day is an important one to remind us all that asking others if they are ok should be something we do often, and that a simple conversation can make a big difference to how someone feels. At OLSH, we feel really lucky that we have so many caring students and staff who do look out for each other!
Last night at the disco, the students had a great time dressing up in their finest and showing us their dance moves! We have added lots of photos to the newsletter today for you to see, and also some video showcasing the dancing, which was spectacular at times! Thanks go to all of the Grade Three to Six student leaders for their great job decorating the multipurpose room for the night – it looked amazing! A big thanks to the staff for supervising this event after a long day at work.
Term Four brings with it many events, beginning with the Grade Three and Four Camp in Week Two. For those parents who haven’t yet made payment, this will need to be done as soon as possible. In Week Three, Grandparents Day will be held on the 20th of October. A flyer went home about this earlier in the week. This will also be attached to the newsletter today and will go home again at the beginning of term. Grandparents Day is always a great occasion for the students and their grandparents, so we hope to see as many here as possible to celebrate!
Summer uniform can now be worn and by Week Two of next term, all students should be in full summer uniform. Please make sure you have this organised over the holidays if needed.
I hope everyone enjoys a great two weeks away from school and we look forward to seeing you all on October 2nd for the beginning of Term Four!

Grade One/Two News
What a busy end of Term Three we have had!
On Monday our students had a great STEM Day, designing and making bird feeders. They came up with some great ideas to create a bird feeder that needed to hang in a tree, hold seed, have a perch and an opening for a variety of birds to reach the seeds. Check out their creations in the photos below.
On Wednesday we took a bus down the road to Chaffey Park for the Sunray Warriors excursion. The students had a wonderful time learning about our local environment and how we can look after it.
Thursday was RUOK? Day and as well as wearing a splash of yellow, our students took part in some valuable activities focusing on learning how to identify our own emotions and ways we can support our friends when they need it.
Art folders have gone home this week. Please keep the art work inside and return the folders to school.
We wish everyone a happy and safe break from school and look forward to seeing all our families refreshed and ready for Term Four!
