31 - 20th September, 2024 - Term 3, Week 10
Principal's News
Dear Families,
We have made it to the end of another term! It’s incredible how quickly the last ten weeks have passed, and we have certainly packed a lot into that time! As well as some great learning, of course, there have been multiple activities and events, with the term finishing with our Disco last night and Footy Colours Day today. Students were dressed in their finest disco gear and danced the night away to Mr. Lawrence’s tunes (there were some great moves!) and today were decked out in their team’s colours for Footy Day. The Grade Six students, along with Mr. Breewel, led all classes through some fun footy activities throughout the day. Hopefully those who have teams in the finals will still be smiling after the weekend!
The Grade Three/Four Camp will take place in Week Two of next term and all students should have paid the balance of the camp by today, unless otherwise arranged. A medical form was sent home by teachers that will need to be filled out if your child needs daily medication during the camp. This medication can be given to Mrs. Phelan prior to leaving for camp. We will take Panadol with us so as long as parents have given permission on SIMON for the school to administer Panadol, then you do not have to send this with your child (unless they can only take a particular type of paracetamol). We are looking forward to the trip to Swan Hill!
Grandparents Day is coming up quickly, with the date set for Friday, October 18th. Last week a code went home on the newsletter that could be scanned to indicate attendance. We hope that families found this an easier way to reply! You can also let us know numbers in the office if you wish. We love to see our grandparents and special friends at this celebration each year and look forward to this special day, so don’t forget to get your replies in as soon as possible!
Our new playground is steadily emerging but won’t be finished by Friday as planned (it was a nice idea!) so we will all be looking forward to seeing the finished product when school returns after the break. There was a lot of excitement as the old playground was demolished and different pieces of the new equipment were put together this week! The builders ahd quite an audience!
When we return after the break, all students should be in their summer uniform, including correct shoes. While we know that some students, particularly Grade Sixes, only have a limited time left at OSLH, this is not an excuse for incorrect uniform. We appreciate your cooperation with this. The students have been fantastic this year and have worn their uniform with pride most of the time. Well done!
As the term ends, we hope that all families enjoy a rest of some sort over the holidays, whether that means going away, or just having a break from the usual school routines! However you spend them, we hope everyone stays safe and well during the holiday period. We will see everyone back at OLSH on Monday, October 7th, ready to go for the final term of the year!

Another term down! Just like that we have only one Term left of Grade One. Well done for another fantastic week. The students did well to work hard with more exciting events on like STEM day and the school disco.
We finished off the term by watching Charlotte's Web as the students enjoyed listening to this book as our class novel this term.
The focus in Mathematics this week has been 3D shapes, identifying corners, surfaces and faces.
I hope everyone enjoys their holidays and come back refreshed for a busy Term Four!

Grade 2 News
We have had a great last week to what has been a very busy term!
On Wednesday we had our STEM Day. The task was to build a wagon that could hold 30 pencils and that could be pushed or pulled with a handle. The students did some great problem solving to make the wheels work and to make a handle that could push as well as pull the wagon.
On Thursday night our students had an awesome time at the disco and showed off some impressive dance moves.
We have also been enjoying watching 'Paddington' in class as we finished the novel this week.
Thank you to all the parents for their support this Term. It has been so helpful to have everyone organised for each event!
I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable holiday ready for another fun and busy last term!
Have a great break,
Lisa

Grade 3 & 4 News
Congratulations everyone, on completing another great term of learning and to parents for supporting your child throughout the journey!
Last night we had the much anticipated school disco which is always a highlight for our students followed by today's footy colours day! May the best team win next weekend!
In the first week back of next term, we will be having our annual Rosary Liturgy at 1pm on Thursday 10th October. It is here that we say a decade of the rosary together and new students to our school receive their own set of rosary beads. Please encourage your child to bring their beads on this day.
Another camp note with reminders will be sent home during the first week back. Please check your child's bag and have the necessary medical details etc completed on SIMON and on the note that was sent home last week. If your child takes any medication that needs to be administered during the camp, these forms must be filled out and returned to school.
Thankyou.

Grade Five News
This week we wrapped up another busy term with the school disco, Footy Colours Day and watching Prince Caspian which has been our class novel this term. It has been great to see the Grade 5 students modelling safe and repectful behaviours and thinking about stepping up into a School Leader role in 2025. Next term we will spend quite a bit of time exploring the qualities of a good leader and preparing our letters for staff and students to read prior to the voting. It's sure to be a very busy end to the school year!
I hope you all have a happy and safe holiday!
Kind regards,
Cheryl-Anne
