Principal's News
Dear Families,
The Grade Five and Six students have been having a wonderful time on the Rose Gap Camp, taking part in activities such as the high ropes, giant swing, rock climbing, raft building, and bushwalking. I would like to thank Miss Ford for all her hard work in preparing for this camp, Mrs. Lawrence for taking over and efficiently organizing everything in a short time, Mrs. Gallagher, Mr. Breewel, and Mr. Bower for their contributions and for accompanying the students on the camp.
This weekend at the Merbein Church, there will be a Memorial Mass for Sr. Marion. Sr. Marion was a big part of our school and the Merbein Parish for a long time. Anyone who worked with her or was a student here during the time of Sr. Marion will have fond memories and know what an important part of our community she was.
In more exciting and happier news, the basketball court is now finished and being used by the students. It looks fantastic and has already had a lot of use.
Over the coming weeks Mrs. Gallagher will be meeting with families who have applied for enrolment at OLSH for the first time, she is looking forward to showing them our beautiful school. Current OLSH families who have enrolled siblings will soon receive their offers of enrolment, provided that the required forms have been filled out and submitted to the school. These families will be contacted in Term Three to make arrangements for a time to meet. If you are yet to enrol your child, please do this as a matter of urgency.

In this edition of SchoolTV - DIET & NUTRITION
We all know that diet and nutrition is vital to your child’s development and growth, but are you aware of the effects it has on your child’s brain development and how it can impact their academic achievement?
In this era of convenience, it is easy to reach for pre-packaged and processed foods to cope with busy schedules. However, these foods are usually packed full of sugar and salt which can have adverse health effects. Making a habit of reading food labels can help reduce the risks. It can also help to stabilise your child’s energy, improve their mood, maintain a healthy weight and improve their general wellbeing.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will discover practical advice for teaching your kids about the benefits of incorporating a healthy diet and good nutrition.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

School Student Broadband Initiative
the Australian Governments School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) which is available to families through to December 2025. This means for eligible families who sign up now, there is still over 18 months of free internet.
The Australian Government initiative was designed to boost education opportunities and narrow the digital divide, with the Australian Government providing up to 30,000 eligible families with school age children with no internet at home free access to NBN under the SSBI.
Access to the SSBI has become easier, with applications made through the National Referral Centre that parents/carers with school students can contact directly to check their eligibility.
Victorian families with students enrolled in Prep to Year 12, who do not have an active NBN connection (or had one in the previous 14 days) but can access a standard NBN service at their premises can become eligible with an application to the National Referral Centre.

Grade 3 & 4 News
It has been a great week of learning in the Middle Unit!
We have completed our Pat Tests, which is great to get out of the way and both Adam and I are now using this data to help us write student reports.
In Grade 3/4P we are continuing our learning about the First Fleet and we are using this information that we now know to write some great expanded sentences in Structured Literacy. We have read quite a few chapters in our class novel "The Wild Robot" and have completed some fun activities that coincide with the book. This week in ART we have started making 'friendship bracelets' on a loom. These have created much enthusiasm and a sense of calmness in our classroom!
This week in 3/4L we have finished off our topic on the Age of Exploration by researching an Early Explorer. Students enjoyed choosing their own research question to answer about their chosen explorer. We've also been rewriting traditional fairytales, focusing on story structure and plot.
On Thursday students enjoyed playing on the newly resurfaced basketball court. It looks great and by all accounts 'is sooo much better than the old one'!
It is Grade 3/4L's assembly next week.
Below are some links to some games the Grade Three students have been using in Mathematics to help them solve questions quickly.
