Principal's News
Dear Families,
Today we held our OLSH Athletics Carnival and the students came along prepared to compete to the best of their abilities, but also with the aim of enjoying the day and having fun! It was a sea of green and gold on the oval as we started our day, and despite being a bit windy, thankfully the weather held out for us (there was a bit of stress last night as the rain poured down!) and the students completed the activities with gusto! Congratulations goes to McAuley who took out the points on the day to win the shield. All students participated in the spirit of the day, with a big thanks going to our seniors who encouraged the younger ones beautifully and to Mr. Breewel for his organisation and the teachers and parent helpers. It was a good day!
On Monday morning, the Grade Five and Six students will head off to Adelaide on their school camp. We will be leaving bright and early at 7.30am, and are looking forward to the many activities planned, including a visit to the Monarto Zoo, a tour of Adelaide Oval, the Museum, the West Beach Adventure Park and lots more! A massive thanks goes to Miss Ford who has organised the entire camp, which takes many hours and lots of planning! We look forward to sharing some photos and news about the camp in next week’s newsletter.
At the beginning and end of the day, we have an increasing number of students who are riding their scooters (and the occasional skateboard) to school. It has come to our attention that many students are not wearing helmets when they leave the school. Wearing a helmet is widely recommended when riding scooters and skateboards, and we would hate to see any student hurt because their head was unprotected. Well done to those riders who diligently put their helmets on each day and we encourage all families to make sure that their child has a helmet if riding to and from school.
We would like to remind parents that when the bell goes at the end of the day, any students who are leaving the school on foot are to wait inside the gate until the students on the bus have been checked off the bus list and have boarded the bus. The gate area can become very congested when parents and students are trying to make their way through when the bus line is still there. It only takes a matter of minutes for the bus users to leave, so we would appreciate everyone’s cooperation with this.
On Friday, 1st of September, we will be celebrating our wonderful OLSH dads with a bacon and egg breakfast! This has always been a great occasion in the past and we look forward to seeing our dads and kids enjoying breaky and then a game in the yard before the bell. Classrooms will also be open for you to have a wander through if you wish. We will be having assembly as usual at 9am, so our dads are most welcome to join us for this as well! Please make sure you fill in your order (for dads and kids) on CDF Pay as soon as possible to help us with catering numbers. We hope to see you all at breakfast!
The school will be a little quieter next week while the senior students are away and I’m sure the younger grades will enjoy having free run of the playground! Adam Lawrence will be taking charge until we return from camp. I hope everyone enjoys the week!

Auslan News
This week in Auslan the senior students have thoroughly enjoyed peer teaching the junior grades. Grade Five have been working hard to create a Google-slide with videos they had made showing an animal sign. They then taught the junior students these signs and also how to make videos. Grade six students worked with their buddy to learn the signs for family. Well done to everyone for their hard work!

Senior News
The excitement level in our classrooms has been high this week with all students eagerly anticipating Athletics Day today and next week's camp. Final preparations for both events have been made and I know that all students will have such a great time together.
This week we have continued to learn more about God's promise to Abraham and how Christianity, Islam and Judaism all stem from Abraham. Students researched one of the religions in pairs and prepared 3-5 important pieces of information that they then shared with the class. Together we created Venn diagrams to show the connections between Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
